RVC Farmers Market gets ready for fall

Last call coming soon for certain summer treats

As the summer winds down, Rockville Centre residents can expect to see more than just the leaves changing. The Farmers Market, held every Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon until Nov. 19, will be morphing with the seasons as well, which means there will soon be a last call for summer’s tasty treats.

Frozen Sin, an artisan ice cream sandwich and doughnut truck, will be saying goodbye to their new creation, the passion fruit mango ice cream sandwich, which vendor Erica Belk said has been a huge hit.

But she added that locals are already looking forward to their fall flavors. “We already have customers asking us when the apple pie is coming in, when the pumpkin ice cream is coming in,” Belk explained. Hungry patrons will have to wait though, at least for another few weeks.

A cheese enthusiast for Coach Farms said that people tend to buy more cheese as the weather cools off. “When it’s hot out,” he said, sounding a bit hurt, “people don’t really like cheese.”

For people who want something lighter and sweeter than goat cheese, there are only a few weeks left before the Bearded Baker, a purveyor of French macarons, will put an end to its summer specialty, the rose cardamom. “It’s a light rose flavor, inspired by an Indian desert, gulab jamun,” said Olivia Moore, whose boyfriend, Scott Krevat, is the Bearded Baker himself. “It’s a light floral, classic summery flavor. … It’ll be gone by next month.”

Milton Moreda, of WPW Growers, said that in about two weeks, the annual flowers would be replaced by kale cabbage and mums. He noted that while the sunflowers would be sticking around for another month, peak sunflower season is right now.
