RVC Girl Scouts honored at awards ceremony

The Rockville Centre Association of Girl Scouts held their Gold, Silver & Bronze Award ceremony at Central Synagogue-Beth Emeth on May 21 as over three dozen girls were honored for their commitment to the community.
The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. Open only to girls in high school, this award challenges girls to change the world. The goal is to plan and implement an individual "Take Action" project that provides a sustainable, lasting benefit to the girl's larger community. To do this, the girls must identify an issue, investigate it thoroughly, build a team and then take action by leading the team to carry out the plan.
Ambassador Girl Scout Troop 809 are all graduating from South Side High School and going to college in the fall.
To earn the Silver Award, a girl must be a registered Girl Scout cadette in 6th, 7th or 8th grade and complete one of the cadette journey books, earn her journey awards and complete the take-action project. The project must be sustainable, meaning it must carry forward to others in their community. Each cadette in the group should put in at least 50 hours of her own time on the project.
To earn the Bronze Award, a girl must be a registered Girl Scout Junior in 4th or 5th grade. Before starting her project, she must complete one of the Junior Journey books, earning her Journey Awards including the Journey Take-Action Project.

The Bronze Award Take-Action Project should be a minimum of 20 hours per Girl Scout, but many spend much more on their projects.
