Police Officer Joseph Scibico was named “Cop of the Month” by the Rockville Centre Police Department for his 3 a.m. arrest of a man observed looking into parked, unoccupied vehicles in residential driveways. The 18-year-old defendant was identified during arrest processing as a Crips gang member.

The arrest, for criminal possession of stolen property, came after Officer Scibico stopped and questioned two males slowly riding bicycles and looking into parked cars early on Monday, May 9. During the interview, one subject admitted that a GPS in his possession had been stolen from a vehicle earlier in the evening.

Police Commissioner Chuck Gennario commended Officer Scibico for his “diligence, dedication to duty and highly professional conduct” in naming him Cop of the Month.
