Second Rockville Centre store is hit by armed robbers

Waldbaums' workers confronted by masked gunman on Aug. 21

No injuries were reported after two men robbed the Waldbaums supermarket on Sunrise Highway and Ocean Avenue at closing on Aug. 21, displaying handguns and forcing five workers to lie on the floor while they ransacked its safe, police said.

It was the second armed robbery in a village business in recent weeks —workers in the McDonald’s on Sunrise Highway were robbed at gunpoint on the evening of July 28 by a gun wielding intruder, who took cash and the victims’ Blackberry cell phones.

According to Nassau County detectives, the suspects in last Saturday’s robbery, two men who wore all black clothing and face masks, entered the store at 399 Ocean Ave. at 10:03 p.m. and demanded that its employees lie on the floor.

Police said the store manager was then taken at gunpoint to the office and forced to open the safe. The suspects ransacked the safe, police said, sprayed the victim with an unknown substance and then fled with a black garbage bag containing an undetermined amount of money.

Detectives ask that anyone with information on the robbery call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
