Beth Fiteni, Program Director for The Sustainability Institute at Molloy College, has received the Environmental Quality Award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The award, the EPA’s highest honor for those in the public sector, was given to Fiteni in recognition of her dedication to educating the public on environmental health issues and, in particular, her work with “Prevention is the Cure,” a program of the Huntington Breast Cancer Coalition.

“The EPA’s recognition of Beth Fiteni is a fitting tribute to someone who has dedicated her life to helping the public,” said Neal Lewis, Executive Director of The Sustainability Institute. “We congratulate her on this well-deserved honor.”

Fiteni’s responsibilities include coordinating the Clean Energy Task Force, which encourages local governments to adopt clean-energy practices and technologies, and managing the Long Island Interfaith Environment Network, which she co-founded. She also writes about environmental issues for a wide variety of publications, and gives lectures and presentations to local community organizations.

Fiteni holds a Masters of Environmental Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Connecticut College. She is a graduate of Leadership Huntington and The Energeia Partnership program at Molloy College. In 2008 she was named one of Long Island Business News’ Top 40 under 40, recognizing young leaders on Long Island.
