South Side High School students work for a better world

Created in 1995, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award recognizes students who have demonstrated exemplary community service. This prestigious award, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is presented annually on the local, state and national levels. This year’s nominee from South Side High School is senior Deana Davoudiasl.

In written comments, Dr. Burris called Deana a true humanitarian, devoting many hours of her life toward bettering the world. She is the president of SADD & Youth Decide, president of the Rockville Centre Youth Council, vice president of the Leo Club (Community Service) and co-founder of the Glamour Girls. The Glamour Girls is a group of students who volunteer to visit the elderly in the community, spending time polishing their nails and talking about fashion. Deana also sacrifices her time to tutor and support underclassmen in a wide variety of extra curricular clubs. She is an unselfish, compassionate and patient individual who clearly deserves the nomination.
