Eight teams from South Side Middle School participated in the Southern New York Vex IQ State Robotics Championship last Saturday. South Side, which hosted the event, welcomed 24 teams from as far away as Huntington and Manhattan to participate.

The competition included a variety of events, including the Teamwork Challenge, during which two robots work collaboratively in 60-second matches to score points. Teams also competed in the Robot Skills Challenge, where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible. These matches consist of Driving Skills Matches, which are entirely driver-controlled, and Programming Skills Matches, which are autonomous, with limited human interaction.

Three SSMS teams won awards, as they qualified for the Vex IQ World Championship in Kentucky in April.
