Support library budget and candidates

The Rockville Centre Public Library provides extremely important services for the village.

It is, of course, a place where people can go and borrow books and movies. But more than that, it’s a hub of information for the village. Residents can meet with one another, take unique classes, attend interesting seminars and spend time together as a family with fun children’s programs.

The library’s proposed budget — a rather modest $3.3 million, considering everything the facility offers — is a well-conceived spending plan. The board of trustees has worked hard to keep the budget lean. Every dollar that is being spent is one that is needed.

The 1.99 percent increase in spending equates to an annual tax increase of about $13 for the average household. It’s more than worth it for everything residents get in return.

The reason the increases are so reasonable is that the library has strong and steady hands at the wheel. The Herald endorses Trustees Andrea Cascardi Maher and Eileen Burke Bucaria, and hopes residents will return them to their seats on the board. Both women have shown their love for the library, and have proved they have what it takes to keep it relevant in the 21st century.
