The faces of the fallen

Those whom Rockville Centre lost on Sept. 11, 2001

Posted

Since its official unveiling in October 2002, the residents of Rockville Centre, and the families and friends of those from the village who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 have had a peaceful place to reflect on and remember the events of that tragic day.

Tucked away in the northwest corner of the Village Green, at Maple and Lee avenues, is an eight-ton granite monument and memorial inscribed with the words: "Forever in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. We will never forget those from our community lost on September 11,2001.”

Inscribed on the back is the quotation: "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Side pieces bear the names of each of the victims of the World Trade Center attacks who were part of the Rockville Centre community.

Village residents, and families and friends of the victims, are invited to Rockville Centre's annual Candlelight Vigil at the memorial on Oct. 25, a Sunday night, at 7.
The Herald’s best efforts were made to compile our list of the lost. Please let us know if we’ve missed anyone by contacting RVCeditor@liherald.com or (516) 569-4000 ext. 208.
