Six South Side High School students were honored by The National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education on Long Island, NCFJE Chabad, at its 17th annual Good Deed Awards for Long Island Teenagers at the Supreme Court in Mineola on May 4.  

Teens chosen for this “Academy Award” of leadership were recognized for their outstanding acts of goodness and kindness to society as well as their pioneering activity in the transmission of value and identity. The awards were presented at a ceremony led by Rabbi Anchelle Perl with presenters including Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Judge Denise Sher, the Hon.John Riordan, the Hon.Thomas Gulotta and many more. The award recipients from South Side High School included first place recognition for Jenna Talesnick. Dejuan Bacchas took home a third place award and Meaghan Mahoney received a fourth place award. Merit awards were presented to Michael Kennedy, Melanie Kramer and Samuel Fisher.
