Three Rockville Centre men charged in village shooting

A trio of Rockville Centre men were arrested for an alleged assault and shooting at 30 Old Mill Court in the village at 4:40 p.m. on April 27.

There was what police called a “physical altercation” on the side of the building and Kevin Cooper, 56, did accidentally discharge a loaded 9-millimeter Taurus handgun that police said he was carrying inside his sweatshirt pocket that resulted in injuries to his abdomen and surrounding areas.

The gunshot dispersed the participants in the fight, police said.

Kevin S. Cooper Jr., 34, allegedly pointed a handgun at a woman, 50, who later told police she feared for her life. He allegedly hit the woman with the gun that caused injuries that required her to be hospitalized, according to police.    

He and his brother, Devin Cooper, 27, ran after another man who leaving the scene, police said. Cooper Jr. allegedly pointed a loaded American Tactical .22-caliber handgun that police was defaced at the man. He allegedly then gave the gun to Devin who supposedly fired twice in the direction of the fleeing man.

Both guns were recovered and all three Coopers live on Old Mill Road.

Three are charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. Cooper Jr. is also charged with assault.

Kevin Cooper will be arraigned when medically practical, police said. Cooper Jr. and Devin will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on April 28.
