Village schools unaffected by governor’s cut in state aid

Governor David Paterson’s plan to withhold 10 percent of December state aid to schools will have no impact on Rockville Centre schools, Superintendent Dr. William Johnson said on Monday.

"It's a very strange way of defining aid reductions, but nevertheless there is no formula, he just said he's taking 10 percent from the December payments to school districts," said Johnson. "We are almost not dependent on state aid — and low aid -dependent school districts, such as Rockville Centre, are essentially unaffected.

“There's a possibility the district may lose $2,070 of lottery aid, a category of state aid sent to the district under separate cover,” he explained.
