Rockville Centre’s Cub Scout Pack No. 31 received a visit from the “bag lady” at a recent troop meeting. Members from RaisingVoicesUSA gave a video presentation about the environment and showed the children how to turn an old T-shirt into a reusable shopping bag.
“The younger we can teach these children how important issues like this are, the sooner we can see change,” said Michael Clancy, father of Ellie Clancy, one of the children who participated.
In addition, the kids volunteered at Hempstead Lake State Park to clean plastic bags and styrofoam cups from the shoreline. They will also sell reusable shopping bags for their fall fundraiser this year.
