Driver, pedestrian dead in multi-car crash

Five cars involved in Friday night pile-up in North Bellmore

A five-car collision left two people dead Friday night in North Bellmore, according to authorities.

Nassau County Police report that around 9:25 p.m., Stephen Rossman, 20, of Seaford, was driving a 2014 Nissan Rogue at high speed westbound on Jerusalem Avenue when he hit a Nissan Altima from behind, cause the vehicle to spin out of control and strike a female pedestrian.

The pedestrian, 45, of Wantagh, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Altima continued to spin, striking a Subaru that was traveling eastbound operated by a 54-year-old male driver, police said, and Rossman's vehicle continued westbound on Jerusalem Avenue, hitting a roll-off dumpster, which then hit another vehicle driven by a 27-year-old female and, finally, a 2006 Ford box truck that was parked on the road.

Rossman was pronounced dead at the scene. The female pedestrian's identity was withheld pending notification of her family, according to police.

The driver of the Altima was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while the other two drivers involved refused medical attention and were able to remove their vehicles from the scene.
