Seaford library board to welcome new trustee

Margaret Grub will become the newest member of the Seaford Public Library’s Board of Trustees. The board held a special meeting on Dec. 1 to fill the position being vacated at the end of the month by Stephen Gaughran.

Three candidates applied for the position. Upon completion of personal interviews with each candidate, the board conducted extensive deliberations and unanimously selected Grub, who will fill out the term which expires on June 30, 2016.

Grub previously ran for the library board in April, placing second out of three candidates.

“Ms. Grub will be a terrific addition to the board with her very extensive educational and community resume,” said library board President Peter Ruffner. “I am very confident that she will do a wonderful job representing the Seaford taxpayer.”

Grub, who has lived in Seaford for more than 40 years, received her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Old Westbury and her master’s from the New York Institute of Technology. Before retiring from the New York City Board of Education, Grub originally taught at the elementary level and later served as an assistant principal. She is also active with the Friends of the Seaford Public Library, the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Said trustee Patricia Coughlin, “Ms. Grub is very dedicated to the library as exemplified by her volunteer work on a number of community committees the board has established such as for the re-designed website and the bathroom reconstruction projects.”

Grub will be formally sworn in at the Jan. 11 meeting of the Board of Trustees. The public is invited to attend.
