Jews throughout Valley Stream celebrated the Jewish festival of Sukkot last week — translated as the Feast of Tabernacles — celebrating the fall harvest and commemorating the 40 years Jews spent wandering the desert after their Exodus from Egypt.

Valley Stream lights up for Hanukkah

The village held its annual Menorah lighting ceremony Tuesday evening at Valley Stream Station Plaza. Rabbi Yitzchak Goldshmid from the Chabad Outreach Center joined Mayor Ed Fare in the bucket of a Valley Stream fire truck to light the candle for the first night of the Jewish Festival of Lights, which began that day at sundown.
