Sun shines for Trophy Day

A rainy spring presented constant challenges for Valley Stream Little League officials, as they frequently scrambled to schedule make-up games during the 2013 season which began in mid-April. The boys and girls of league played on, and they were rewarded for their patience and perseverance last Saturday morning.

On a warm and sunny day, players and their coaches gathered at Firemen’s Field, the site of many games, for the Little League’s annual Trophy Day presentation. Every child received a trophy for their participation. League President Steve Dignam thanked all of the volunteer coaches for their time, as well as parents and the team sponsors.

They then got to enjoy hot dogs, cotton candy and a mini-carnival, which included an inflatable slide, dunk tank and batting cage. The league’s summer travel team will now be playing in the Williamsport Tournament, aiming to bring to Valley Stream the third District 29 trophy in four years.
