Municipal residential trash collection is now, of course, the norm across the country –– done with trucks, not pigs. It comes with problems of its own. Burn or bury the garbage? Recycle it or not?

These days, though, there is no excuse to simply throw trash on the street –– and yet people do, whether it’s the cigarette butt carelessly flicked onto the sidewalk that eventually washes through storm drains into the wetlands, or construction debris dumped in the Meadowbrook Parkway woodlands.
