Valley Stream Girl Scouts beautify Cahill Park

Posted

Girl Scouts from Valley Stream Troop 2029 kept their annual tradition alive on May 7 by planting a tree near Mill Pond at Mayor Edward W. Cahill Park. They also cleaned up the park by picking up litter along the shoreline.

The scouts do the annual clean-up for Arbor Day, although they were delayed this year because of the weather. In the past they have made bird and bat houses to hang around the park to help the local wildlife.

Girls used the money from their cookie sales to buy a tree, which was planted with the help of village officials. This year, the girls worked with Brownie Troop 2073, and plan to eventually turn over the yearly project to their younger counterparts.
