Beck re-elected Valley Stream fire chief

The Valley Stream Fire Department held its annual election for chiefs and officers last week for 2013-14. On April 4, John Beck Jr., a 23-year member of Engine Company 342 was re-elected as chief of the department. Beck previously served two years as second assistant chief and two years as first assistant chief prior to taking command of the 240-member, all-volunteer department.

The same evening, Charles Brocher of Hook and Ladder Company 345 was re-elected to the position of first assistant chief and James Ervolino of Engine Company 343 was re-elected to the position of second assistant chief. Charles Parker, a member of Engine Company 343, was elected to a three-year term as delegate to the 3rd Battalion.

On April 2, the seven individual companies of the Valley Stream Fire Department, elected their new company captains, lieutenants and wardens:

- Engine Company No 1 (341) — Brian Gauger, captain; Frank Irizarry, lieutenant; Joseph Fernandez, warden

- Engine Company No. 2 (342) — Jason Croak, captain; Ryan Mastrangelo, lieutenant; Donald Conklin, warden

- Engine Company No. 3 (343) — Scott Ringelspaugh, captain; William Dowd, lieutenant; Michael Velte, warden

- Engine Company No. 4 (344) — Edward Roth Jr., captain; Jason Lazar, lieutenant; Dennis Verriello, warden

- Truck Company No. 1 (345) — Kyle O’Brien, captain; Victor Stevens, lieutenant; Richard Funch, warden

- Truck Company No. 2 (346) — Daniel Vecchione, captain; Timothy Leahy, lieutenant; Brendan Cussen, warden

- Rescue Company No. 1 (347) — Brian Ferrucci, captain; Gary Ferrucci, lieutenant; Mark Ferrucci, warden.

After the votes were tabulated and the results announced, Mayor Ed Fare swore in the new chiefs, captains, lieutenants, wardens and delegates. Formal installation will take place at the annual inspection dinner on May 4 at Chateau Briand in Carle Place.
