Board approves road contractor

Posted

Road improvements in the village will start soon as the Board of Trustees approved the construction company on Monday night. Reet Construction Corp. of Port Washington was the low bidder.

About two miles of streets will be repaved through the village’s annual road program. Parts of 17 different streets are on the list, as well as one municipal parking lot, to repaired under the $1.8 million project.

Village Clerk Vinny Ang said despite the rising cost of asphalt, the village will still be able to stretch its road improvement money far. Because of the economy, he said, construction companies are looking for work. “We did very well on this bid,” Ang said. “We were expecting a little higher. It may allow us to add another street in.”

Ang said that the $1.8 million project is consistent with past spending for the annual road program.

Mayor Ed Cahill said that residents should begin to see construction activity by early October. The road improvements will conclude in the spring.
