Brooklyn man arrested in Valley Stream oil robbery

Nassau County police arrested a Brooklyn man on Aug. 31 for stealing oil in Valley Stream and reselling it.

According to a release by the Nassau County Police Department, Melvin Howell, 49, was taken into police custody at 3:20 a.m. after fifth precinct officers saw him steal waste oil from the rear of King Kullen, at 231 Merrick Road in Valley Stream. Their investigation revealed that Howell was stealing the oil from containers and reselling it.

Howell is being charged with petit larceny, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and several vehicle and traffic law violations. He was due to be arraigned in the First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 31.
