Cab driver's car stolen in North Valley Stream

A cab driver was robbed and carjacked in North Valley Stream early Thursday morning. According to police, the driver, a 50-year-old man employed by Laurelton Taxi of Queens, was taking a passenger to an address on North Fletcher Avenue.

At about 1:45 a.m., while nearing the original destination, the passenger asked the cab driver to to turn onto Bowe Road and continue to the end of the block. According to police, the driver became suspicious and made a U-Turn on Bell Court.

That's when, police say, the passenger to the driver to stop the car and pulled out a gun. According to police, he stole about $470 in cash from the driver's pocket, then ordered the driver out of the car. The subject fled in the vehicle west on Bowe Road, then south on Fletcher Avenue.

The vehicle is a gold 2004 Mercedes Benz, license plate EXC 8628. The suspect is described as a black male, 22 to 27 years old, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. He was armed with a silver automatic handgun.

The driver was uninjured.
