Hawthorne Court, the new condominium development on South Cottage Street that is expected to help provide a boost to Valley Stream’s downtown, is nearing completion. On Sept. 15, its developer, the Dennis Organization, invited members of the Chamber of Commerce to tour the construction site and gave them a sneak peak of the completed model units.

“The apartments are lovely,” said Debbi Gyulay, Chamber president. “I’m so happy they chose Valley Stream for this project. I’m proud that the Chamber chose them as business of the year.”

According to Dennis’s Maurice Fox, the 90-unit condominium complex is slated to be finished in February. Twenty of the 90 units are already sold, Fox said, and he expects to sell the rest in the next few months. “It’s really going well,” he said. “People are loving what they’re seeing, and they’re starting to realize that they can design the unit the way they want.”

Potential buyers can choose among four cabinet styles, four granite kitchen tops, eight bathroom tiles and six carpets. They also have the option of customizing the units to their liking, Fox said, adding, “With so many floor plans to choose from, purchasing early allows buyers to acquire exactly the model that best fits their lifestyle.”

The price of a one-bedroom condo starts at $269,000, and two-bedroom units start at $395,000. The complex is four blocks from the Long Island Rail Road station. “The value is incredible,” Fox said. “Valley Stream is a great location. You’re only 15 minutes from the beach, golf and entertainment.”

Chamber member Angela Ogurick said she thought the model units were beautiful, and she is happy to see any type of expansion in the village. “It’s very refreshing to see new buildings being built in an old town,” Ogurick said.

The complex will boast a 14,000-square-foot courtyard, a 24-hour concierge, underground parking, a fitness center and a residents’ club. With some units adjacent to the tracks of the West Hempstead train line, Fox said, he worked with a consulting company to ensure that train noise will be minimized.
