Groove to the sounds of an all-star lineup of jazz musicians, when the Monterey Jazz Festival visits Tilles Center, Saturday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour features pianist Kenny Barron with his Kenny Barron Trio, violinist Regina Carter, Kurt Elling on vocals, and Russell Malone on guitar. Bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa and drummer Johnathan Blake round out the renowned ensemble. Kenny Barron has received acclaim as “one of the top jazz pianists in the world” by music critics, with Jazz Weekly citing him as “the most lyrical piano player of our time.” Joining Barron and Carter, Elling adds his rich voice that spans four octaves. The baritone, a favorite of DownBeat critics and Jazz Times readers’ polls, has garnered seven Grammy nominations. Blake, a Grammy-nominated drummer and composer, provides the driving rhythms that tie everything together.
