DeAngelis named Valley Stream deputy clerk

Posted

Richard DeAngelis, a long-time resident of Valley Stream, has been appointed the village’s new deputy clerk. He replaces Bob Fumagalli, who has been named the deputy treasurer.

According to Mayor Ed Fare, Fumagalli’s responsibilities as deputy village clerk were largely financial, including the preparation of contacts. He will now work under village Treasurer Michael Fox. The position of deputy treasurer has been open since Fox was promoted last year.

DeAngelis will assist Village Clerk Bob Barra as well as Human Resources Director Allison Walsh. Fare said that the Human Resources department is understaffed, so DeAngelis can help fill that void. A deputy village clerk is also only one of four positions with legal access to personnel records.

Fare said that DeAngelis will monitor employee work hours with the hope of reducing overtime. He also hopes that with DeAngelis, the village can start internship, volunteer and community service programs.

DeAngelis will be paid $62,500 a year. Fare said that the position is being funded through the retirement of two Highway Department workers, whose combined salaries were about $140,000. DeAngelis also will no longer take a stipend for his work managing the village’s electronic information sign on Merrick Road or for serving as the liaison between the village and Valley Stream’s youth sports leagues.

For the past four years, DeAngelis has worked for the Nassau County Board of Elections. Before that, he had a full-time chiropractic business. His first day on the job with the village will be June 27.
