Jazz & Jingle

The Elmont Memorial Library will host “Swingin’ for the Holidays with the Something Special Big Band” on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. in the theatre. Philip Costa directs the 18-piece jazz-swing band and the performance will feature vocals by Barbara Fairfax. Concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call (516) 354-5280.

Firetruck rides

As part of its Winterfest celebration, the Valley Stream Fire Department will be offering free firetruck rides on Dec. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. The holiday fun is happening at Hendrickson Park.

‘Elf’

The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library will screen “Elf” as part of its children’s movie Mondays on Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. The film stars Will Farrell as an oversized elf who was raised in the North Pole and heads to New York City in search of his true identity.
