District 13 school board celebrated

After welcoming new trustee Sean Douglas to the District 13 Board of Education last week, the community celebrated all of its board members for the time they devote to the volunteer job.

Gov. David Paterson declared Oct. 25-29 Board of Education Recognition Week, and with a school board meeting on Oct. 26, the timing was perfect for District 13.

Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Lison said the District 13 trustees exemplify the values and vision of the community, and keep alive the dream of quality public education. “Our board members give countless hours of their personal time for a variety of functions,” she said.

Lison presented each trustee with an umbrella that says “Proud board member.” After that, students in the James A. Dever School senior chorus presented the Volunteer Academy Awards, recognizing various volunteers in the community including firefighters and animal shelter workers.

With the help of Town Councilman Ed Ambrosino, who lives in the school district, the students then recognized each board member. “We applaud their tireless efforts,” Ambrosino said.

Board of Education President Frank Chiachiere said he and his fellow trustees recognize the trust and confidence the public places in each one of them. “Being a volunteer on your behalf is an honor and a privilege,” he said.
