District 13 seeks 'budget ambassadors'

Posted

District 13 is seeking interested residents to serve as budget ambassadors who will stay informed of budget details and relevant local and state issues, “enabling them to serve as key communicators within the community.”

Interested candidates are invited to attend a meeting on Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. in the James A. Dever School cafeteria. The details of the proposed 2015-2016 budget will be presented and the district will answer questions regarding the budget, district finances, taxes and programs. Suggestions for presenting the budget to the community will also be discussed. Once the budget is finalized, the budget ambassadors will be provided with a list of questions and answers likely to arise when discussing district and budget issues with other parents, friends and neighbors. They will be “informed spokespeople for the district, able to promote its positive aspects while addressing the questions and concerns of residents,” according to the district.

A second meeting will be held on April 2 at 9 a.m. where the district will have updated assessment information from Nassau County. The meetings are not mandatory. The district will discuss the budget and send all necessary information to those who cannot attend.

The District 13 Board of Education and administration look forward to working together with community residents on behalf of the students.

Anyone interested should call or email Denise Michels at 516-568-6100 or dmichels@valleystream13.com by Monday, Feb. 23. If you would like to be a budget ambassador but can not attend the meeting, please let the district know so that a meeting can be scheduled to provide you with the necessary information about the 2015-16 school budget.
