Eleven students from District 13 participated in the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged last Friday morning at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.
It was the third time the Valley Stream elementary school district has taken part in the games, sponsored by Nassau County. The children participated in the club throw, distance kick, precision throw, discus and 100-meter relay race.
Each athlete was also paired with a student buddy and a chaperone from the district’s staff. In addition to the events, they also got to enjoy some games and had a chance to win prizes. The athletes will receive their medals at the June 19 Board of Education meeting.
