A Few Clouds Doo Wop in Bellmore
Long Island producer strives to keep oldies music alive
Norman Wasserman, 61, of Coram, president and co-founder of Friend Entertainment, Ltd. has hosted the Doo Wop shows that he produces for the last 23 years, missing only one in all that time, he said, for illness.
“I just love the oldies,” Wasserman said. “Our slogan is that it’s ‘The music that will live forever.’ ”
For the first 30 years of his career, Wasserman was a corporate recruiter. He now works as a sales manager for a company that purchases autos. His real love, though, is music – and making sure he keeps the oldies alive for music lovers of all ages.
He started the business in 1988 with entertainer Lenny Coco, of Lenny Coco and the Chimes, and went on to be the company’s sole producer. Friend Entertainment, Ltd. has brought shows to hundreds of venues, and Wasserman has hosted many fundraisers and charity events across the country.
On June 11, Wasserman packed the Bellmore Theatre by hosting a Street Corner Doo Wop Serenade, with top acappella groups The Tribunes, The 3rd Edition, The Wrenditions, Still In Style, and special guests, The Valentino’s. The audience got their money’s worth with a three-hour-plus show – and people were still shouting for more when it was over.
