Fire Department warns of fake funding letters

Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department is warning residents of fake funding letters soliciting donations for the Fire Department’s fund drive. The department posted online examples of the falsified document next to the legitimate sponsorship flyer sanctioned by Nassau County Fire Commission and Valley Stream Fire Department.

These fake mailings asked residence for a suggested ten-dollar donation. It is not known how many residents mailed in money or disclosed their personal banking information to the scammers. The Fire Department asks residents to double check their mail to ensure any VSFD letters have the official department letterhead. 

According to a fire department official: “If you have any questions regarding the validity of a fund drive letter you receive, please send us a message. If you are inclined to donate to our fund drive, please visit our department website www.valleystreamfd.org,”
