Flood maps to be discussed in Valley Stream

Posted

The Valley Stream Community Association will hold a meeting on Tuesday night focusing on the recently released flood maps.

The subject of the meeting is how the new proposed Federal Emergency Management Agency's maps will affect homeowners in Valley Stream. An engineer is scheduled to give a presentation on what residents should do if they are supposed to remain in the high-risk flood zone.

In early January, FEMA, in a presentation at Village Hall, unveiled new maps that would remove about 1,600 homes from the high-risk flood zone. Several hundred homes which were added to the zone in 2009 are expected to remain in.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. on March 19 and will be held in Central High School's Keller Auditorium, 135 Fletcher Ave.
