Girl Scouts take it to the next level

Girl Scouts from Valley Stream Troops 2033 and 2124 received a variety of awards at a ceremony on May 23 at Holy Name of Mary School.

Ambassador Scouts Jessica Prashad and Celeste Samuel were recognized at the ceremony for completing their community service projects to qualify for the Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouts. They will officially receive their awards later this month from Girl Scouts of Nassau County.

Cadettes Lena Demas and Lauren Stewart were honored for earning their Silver Awards. Twenty Girl Scouts received rank advancements and took part in a bridging ceremony.

There were also speeches from local dignitaries including Village Justice Robert Bogle, Councilman Jim Darcy and Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages, as well as a candle-lighting ceremony.

Troop 2033 consists of Daisies, Brownies and Juniors, while Troop 2124 includes Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors. The leaders are Dawn Samuel, Lisa Burke, Christine Caban and Karlene Wilder.
