Green Party picks Valley Streamer for Skelos seat run

Posted

The Green Party of Nassau County nominated Valley Stream resident Laurence Seth Hirsh on Feb. 4 as its candidate to replace Dean Skelos as New York State Senator for District 9.

“Today I’m announcing my candidacy for the 9th New York senatorial district,” Hirsh said. “I’ll represent the people of my constituency in their effort to eradicate corruption in Albany, and bring back integrity to state government.”

Hirsh, 56, an accountant, has said he advocates the taxing of financial transactions on Wall Street, using that money for county revenue sharing. Hirsh ran for Nassau County Legislator last fall in a bid to unseat Democratic Legislator Carrié Solages.

Green Party candidates do not accept corporate contributions.

District 9 comprises the southwest region of Nassau County. The senatorial seat is currently vacant after Skelos’s conviction on federal corruption charges. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced last week that a special election would be held on Tuesday, April 19 to fill the seat.
