Homeowner stops robbery of deliveryman in Valley Stream

Posted

The mere presence of a homeowner answering his door stopped the robbery of a food deliveryman on Monday night in Valley Stream's west end.

According to Nassau County Police, an order for food was placed to New Gookies Kitchen of Rosedale. The 49-year-old deliveryman arrived at the Ash Street home at 7:40 p.m. and rang the doorbell at the home’s side entrance. A man came from behind the home and displayed a handgun. He pointed the gun at the deliveryman and demanded money.

The homeowner then answered the door, interrupting the robbery. The suspect fled back toward the rear of the house. Police arrived but were unable to locate the suspect. During the investigation, it was learned the homeowner never placed an order for food.

No proceeds were taken and no one was injured. The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10 with a stocky build. He was wearing dark colored clothing and had his face partially covered with a cloth.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
