Shakespeare Festival presents a look at Shakespeare's Henry VI trilogy this weekend

Shakespeare Festival
It’s time for Hofstra’s annual Shakespeare Festival. This year’s event features “The War of the Roses,” a one-evening version of the Henry VI trilogy, directed and adapted by Royston Coppenger, a professor of drama and dance at Hofstra. It is accompanied the Festival Musicale,” These Mortals Be,” performed by the Hofstra Collegium Musicum, and a companion play, a new one-hour A Midsummer Night’s Dream titled “What Fools!,” adapted by Hofstra Professor Maureen Connolly McFeely.
Thursday through Saturday, March 10-12, 8 p.m.; Sunday, March 13, 2 p.m. “These Mortals Be” and “What Fools!” are performed together, Saturday, March 12, 2 p.m. $12, $10 seniors and students. Hofstra University’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus, Hempstead. (516) 463-6644.

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

Celtic Fun With Darlene
With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, pop into the Long Island Children’s Museum Theater for an exploration of traditional Irish music with Darlene Graham and the Shades of Green Band. Darlene is no stranger to the LICM stage; she has brought her popular child friendly music program “Stomp-it” to the museum a number of times. Now she’s back to help everyone celebrate Irish culture. Bring your best singing voice and join in.

Irish Festival
Get into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day at Hofstra University’s 13th annual salute to all things Irish. You don’t have to be from the Old Country to join the hooley and celebrate in true Irish style! Enjoy music and dance performances throughout the day, along with craft exhibits and Irish cuisine to sample. This year’s festival features Girsa, an eight member all-female traditional band; the Black Velvet Band; the always popular Hirten Family Irish Dancers; along with Katie’s Puppets, The Amazing Fred Collins, and others. Tony Jackson, of Hofstra’s WRHU (88.7 FM) serves as guest master of ceremonies.
