It’s all in the family at Dever

Posted

There may be 65 students in kindergarten at the James A. Dever School this year, but a good number of them come from the same families.

There are two sets of triplets and two sets of twins among the three kindergarten classes at the District 13 elementary school. If they continue on together for the next 13 years, the 10 students will make up a good part of Valley Stream North High School’s class of 2026.

The Cruz triplets

The 5-year-old Cruz triplets are in three different classes this year at the James A. Dever School. It is their first time apart from each other for extended periods of time, but they do get to see each other at lunch.

At home, they like to play monster trucks and dolls together, and they all play soccer. Whenever Kevin sees one of his siblings, he gives them a big hug. The triplets also have an older sister and a younger brother.

The Nuzzi triplets won’t turn 5 until the end of the month, but are already several weeks into their educational careers. They live in the neighborhood, so they walk to and from school together every day.

They are in three different classes but meet up during recess. The boys like to play with dump trucks and cars. Sean’s favorite superheroes are the Power Rangers, while Anthony is partial to the Ninja Turtles. Julia likes dolls.

All three love pizza — this year their birthday party will be at a pizza place — but only Sean lists that as his favorite food. For Anthony, he prefers tacos while Julia puts Chinese food at the top of her list.

They say a lot of people are surprised when they find out they are triplets. Anthony is oldest of three, by only a few minutes, and Sean is the youngest.

The Florio twins
Julia and James
Birthday: July 27, 2008
Hometown: Malverne

Julia and James Florio say they like kindergarten so far, even though they are apart for several hours a day. They do get to ride on the bus together, and see each other at lunch.

At home, the 5-year-old twins love to play with their dog, Rocky. But they also have some different interests. James like cars and Julia enjoys playing with stuffed animals.

Julia, who noted that James is just a little taller than her, says people always tell her she looks more like her mother than her twin brother.

The Dusel twins
Jack and Delaney
Birthday: June 12, 2008
Hometown: Malverne

Jack and Delaney Dusel say they like to have fun together. They enjoy sharing their toys and stuffed animals. Jack likes superheroes like Spiderman and Batman, and Delaney is fond of princesses and dolls.

Although they are in different classes, they say the transition to kindergarten has been easy because they are both making new friends. Jack even says he likes to sit with his new friends on the bus.

They have an older sister in fourth grade who looks out for them. Jack and Delaney say while most people can tell they are siblings, some are surprised to learn they are twins. “They think we’re just brother and sister,” Delaney said. “Jack has different hair.”
