The Council of PTA’s 55th annual Lights On for Education event was held at Memorial Junior High School on April 21, where displays and presentations showcased a litany of programs and student achievements from each of Valley Stream’s four school districts.

The event’s theme was “Be the Guiding Light for Others to Follow,” which students from each district spoke about during the opening ceremony.

“We’re all here for one reason and one reason only — the children,” said Frank J. Chiachiere, president of the Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education and a trustee on the Valley Stream District 13 Board of Education. “You have all chosen to send your children to our schools, and as adults you have choices, and we thank you for choosing us.”

The featured programs included culinary arts, family and consumer sciences, cosmetology, performance groups, physical education, STEAM-related activities, 3-D printing and advanced placement courses. Musical performances and art displays also provided entertainment throughout portions of the evening.
