Little League season goes out with a blast

Posted

The Valley Stream Little League wrapped up its spring season on June 18 with its annual Trophy Day ceremony at Firemen’s Field. About 350 players from more than 30 baseball and softball teams received their trophies.

The sun was shining bright and the temperature was in the 80s, quite the improvement over Opening Day in April, which felt more like the opening of football season. League President Steve Dignam said the biggest challenge this past spring was rescheduling games after numerous rainouts.

Following the trophy presentation, the Little League held a carnival for the season straight year. With baseball going on in the background — a matchup between Central and South high schools — Little Leaguers got to take aim at their peers in a dunk tank, enjoy a bounce castle and slide, and eat hot dogs and cotton candy.

The next event for the Little League will a trip to a Long Island Ducks game on July 16.
