Little League team in section finals

The Valley Stream Little League's senior division team will be playing in the sectional finals this Wednesday.

After capturing the District 29 championship with a 13-12 win over Floral Park on July 14, Valley Stream moved on to the Section 5 tournaments. The team beat Queens North, the District 26 champions, 7-6 on July 24 at Rath Park in Franklin Square. Mike Russo got the win and Louie Gandasegui had a three-run home run that put Valley Stream ahead for good.

The following day, Valley Stream defeated Queens South, the District 27 champs, 10-2, again at Rath Park. Brandon Wilder picked up the win and also had four RBIs.

Valley Stream will play for the New York State Little League Section 5 Championship July 28 at 6 p.m. at Barasch Field in Rockville Centre.

"It's been real exciting," Coach John Faust said.
