Memorial students learn the ropes at Career Day

Posted

As high school students prepare for their lives as young professionals, many are still not all that sure what they’d like to do, let alone where to start.  To help them out, Valley Stream Memorial Junior High School students were able to explore and learn about a variety of careers at Career Day last month. The fair was designed to give Memorial students a taste of the career paths available in today’s job sector. “The event, in particular, was meant to address the ever-changing demands of the professional landscape that students will need to contend with after graduation,” according to a press release.

More than 40 alumni, community members, and professionals were enlisted to give students the ins and outs of their profession and answer their questions.  The careers represented ran the gamut from fields in art and law enforcement to real estate and design. Students also got a sense of the motivations and interests behind an individual’s chosen profession. The fair was open to all of Memorial’s eighth-graders throughout the day during their career and technical education classes.
