New athletic academy is on track

Sports enthusiasts met for an athletic seminar at the Hendrickson Park administration building on March 12, hosted by the 2C2W Athletic Academy. Participants got an opportunity to learn about the academy’s activities including the track and field program, and opportunities for professional coaching and competition travel.

Participants also discussed the program’s future development, as the academy plans to implement a Valley Stream after-school track and field championship league for students in grades K-6 in May. Its outdoor season begins on April 4, and academy officials are looking to recruit children between 6 and 16.

The 2011 USATF-LI Youth Indoor Championship athletes were also given achievement certificates and medals during a special presentation. Young student athletes Traciann Campbell, Ian and Alex Toussaint, Trae-Jon Barnes and Shalome Clarke won honors for impressive performances in the track and field meter-dash division.

“We were quite excited with the turnout and the limitless potential of the program which aims to move track and field in Valley Stream forward,” said Clive Walters, the academy’s owner and operator. “Ultimately we aim to help give the sport of track and field a great sense of relevance throughout Nassau County. All attendees expressed an appreciation towards our innovative approach in developing youth track and field in Valley Stream.”
