New leaders, new ideas for Historical Society

The Valley Stream Historical Society hosted its annual Strawberries and Ice Cream Social on June 18 at the Hendrickson Park Community Center. But before guests were able to enjoy a treat, the Historical Society first had to take care of some business.

Officers were installed for the coming year, including President Guy Ferrara who began another term. Dave McKean was elevated to vice president while Karen Selah, a longtime board member, became secretary. New members of the Board of Directors included James Borzumato, John Urgo and Amy Bentley. The installations were done by Mayor Ed Fare, who also serves at the Historical Society’s chairman of the board.

The Historical Society has several initiatives in the works including the development of a website and a trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
