Stepping Out

Ozapallooza! at Long Island Children's Museum

Wandering down the Yellow Brick Road

Posted

Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Woodsmen touch down at Long Island Children’s Museum shortly. Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the premiere of a brand new exhibit, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!,” at Ozapallooza!, a special pre-exhibit event, on Thursday, Jan. 28.
This new exhibit takes visitors on a journey from Dorothy’s Kansas farmhouse to magical Oz. It opens Friday, Jan. 29, and runs through May 2.
As visitors step through the larger than life pop-up book exhibit, families will learn about tornados, play dress up in a Munchkin house, and meet the Tin Woodman to learn about the heart with beating, beeping and flashing machines. Also solve brainteaser games and puzzles with the Scarecrow, and crawl through a dark cave with the Lion.
Families will have fun with many character-themed activities planned for this opening night:
* Concoct some tasty Tin Man pretzels.

* Design Scarecrow puppets and courage crowns.
* Make a spectacle of yourself by decorating a pair of Emerald City glasses.
* Create a Toto basket.
Also, drop by the LICM Theater for an Oz sing-along. Visitors are encouraged to come dressed as a favorite Oz character. Snacks will be served.

When: Thursday, Jan. 28, 6-30-8:30 p.m. $8.
Where: Long Island Children’s Museum, Museum Row,
Garden City. (516) 224-5802.
