Pedestrian fatally struck by car on Merrick Road

A 61-year-old man from Bellerose was fatally struck by a car on Merrick Road in Valley Stream on Monday at 12:03 p.m.

The man, who police did not identify, tried to cross Merrick Road heading north at Green Street when he was struck by a 2002 Audi Allroad heading east.

The man suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead by a staff physician. The driver of the Audi, a 75-year-old man, was not injured.

A safety check on the Audi was performed at the scene and the car was released back to the owner. Police are investigating the incident but said that no criminality was suspected.
