Raises for four village administrators

Posted

The Valley Stream village board unanimously approved raises for four administrators at its Monday night meeting. The increases total $38,000, and range from 2.1 to 19.2 percent.

Bob Barra, the village clerk, and his deputy, Richard DeAngelis, both received $12,000 raises. Barra will now make $129,000 per year, with DeAngelis receiving $74,500 annually.

Michael Fox, who serves as the village’s treasurer, receiver of taxes and chief budget officer, received a $12,000 raise as well, and will now make $101,960 per year. Deputy Treasurer Robert Fumagalli was given a $2,000 increase to $97,680.

Mayor Ed Fare explained that because they are not part of the employee union, they do not receive annual increases, and raises are only given at the discretion of the board when there is “room in the budget.” For example, DeAngelis received his first salary increase since being hired in June 2012.

Fare, responding to questions from the public, said money was available because nine employees recently left the village, either to retire or for other reasons.
