Red mass honors first responders

The St. Therese the Little Flower Council of the Knights of Columbus held a fire safety event last Saturday at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, and a Red Mass on Sunday, which honored firefighters, auxiliary police and EMS workers.

The events were organized by Grand Knight Larry Lombardo. It was his last action in the role, which he will step down from this year.

“It was very nice,” he said of the fire safety program, which was geared toward children. He said about 30 people showed up for it. He said the mass went well, too. “Father Peter was fantastic. Everything I did was so much easier because of him.”

Lombardo said that the safety course looked to be the first of more events like it to come. He said a program for adults is being discussed, which would also be held at the church. “It opened up some good relationships and contacts,” he said of the program. Lombardo said his experience as Grand Knight has been a positive one, but he wants to share the opportunity. “I want other people to enjoy what I’ve enjoyed.”
