School abuzz with holiday shoppers

Posted

Central High School’s two gymnasiums were filled with holiday items as the PTSA hosted its annual craft fair last Saturday. There were 92 vendors — local and from across Long Island — featuring a variety of items, much handmade.

The amount of vendors was nearly double that of last year. Laura Fischer and Roberta Chaplain, of Lindenhurst, were first-time vendors at the fair, and featured a variety of inexpensive stocking stuffers. “That’s what people are really looking for,” Fischer said.

Daniela Roth, of Valley Stream, started a new company in the past year called Baskets, Candles and Gifts Oh My! The fair was her opportunity to promote her upstart business and show off the customized gift baskets she creates.

Proceeds from the holiday fair will go toward scholarships for graduating seniors, as well as for student programs at Central High School and Memorial Junior High. The event was organized by PTSA executive board member Annette Gray but she didn’t want to take all the credit. “It was a great team effort to get this up and running,” she said.
