Scout looks back in time for Eagle project

Posted

Robert Bogle, a Boy Scout with Valley Stream Troop 116, is working on his Eagle Scout project. Robert, son of village Justice Bob Bogle, is looking to install a plaque near at Rockaway Avenue and Sunrise Highway to honor “Rum Junction.” The Long Island Rail Road established one of its first major train junctions in Valley Stream in 1869, and for the next 30 years the surrounding area became a hot spot for travelers, celebrities and dignitaries to stop for a rest before their trip back to New York City.

Robert, who attends Kellenberg High School, recently appeared before the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce seeking donations for his project, which he expects to cost a few hundred dollars for the plaque and a small garden.
